Despite having palaces and forts throughout Rajasthan, one cannot miss Jodhpur among the other cities to visit.

It continues to attract tourists with its unique features, one of which is the group of blue houses that form a trademark of the city. This attracts people especially photographers who get the wide range of houses and streets painted in the same color. To add on to it, the city gets lit up by the sun, creating a unique ambience in itself.

The city also holds up few but grand palaces or havellis which are an attraction. The monuments continue to talk of architecture, which the museums speak of the royal Rajput history. Named after its founder Rao Jodha of the Rathore clan of Rajputs, the land is remarkable for the outstanding valour of the clan.

One of the major attractions is the Mehrangarh Fort which was built across 500 years by various rulers from the clan hence it has some of the best palaces within. The Fort too stands unique as it stands perched on a cliff, at an elevation of 400 meters which makes it visible from far ends of the city.

On visiting Jodhpur, one must not miss the Jaswant Thada, a cenotaph built in the memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. It features the portraits and painting of the various rulers giving an insight on its Royal history. On the other hand, you can experience the local markets and people around the ancient Clock Tower, built in late 19th century by Maharaja Sardar Singh. The Tower stands as the landmark to the old city.

Apart from these, your visit to Jodhpur would be even more exciting if it’s planned in mid January, when the International Kite Festival takes place. It is an elaborate 3 days event that attracts people from across the country and world to participate in various Kite flying competitions. It is one of the unique and major events of the country that highlights the colors and culture of Rajasthan. That’s how Jodhpur has its own attractions to stand out for its tourists among the other cities of Rajasthan.

Climatic Condition

Jodhpur experiences semi – arid climate throughout the year, owing to its position in the Thar Desert and the bright sun that it faces throughout the year. While summers (March to June) are extreme with temperatures up to 40° C, winters (October to February) become the right time for tourists with temperature between 10° C and 24° C. Monsoons which start from July, extend till September with medium rainfall and excess humidity.
