The Sree Chitra Art Gallery is located at Trivandrum and was established in 1935. It houses around 1100 paintings by various contemporary and traditional methods of paintings that includes the works of Nicholas Roerich, Raja Ravi Varma, Jamini Roy, Svetoslav Roerich and Rabindranath Tagore.
Specialty of Chitra Art Gallery
The Sree Chitra Art Gallery comprises of two bungalows that stood side by side to each other and later combined to form the museum. The then museum director, Dr. Cousins spared no expenses in furnishing the museum with exotic paintings from many places. The museum houses paintings such as Rajasthan paintings, Bali paintings, Mughal paintings, Tanjore paintings and paintings from the Bengal school of art.
Best time to visit
The museum is open between 10.00 am to 5.00 pm. It is open between 1.00 pm to 5.00 pm on all Wednesdays and is closed on all Mondays.
