Nagarhole National Park - India

One of the ecologically balanced National Parks in India is Nagarhole National Park. The density of herbivorous animals and Asiatic elephants here is amongst the largest in Asia. After Madhya Pradesh, it is in Karnataka the density of tigers are the highest. Occupying the royal terra of Kodagu and Mysore, Nagarhole means “Serpentine Rivulets” - ‘Naga’ is Snake and ‘Hole’ is streams or small rivers. The erstwhile royal hunting grounds of the Wodeyar Dynasty rose to the status of a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1955 and became a National Park in 1988. Nagarhole became the 37th Tiger Reserve in India in 1999 and has a chance to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site soon.

Bangalore - India
