The major landmark and the important tourist destination is the Rock Fort Temple in Trichy. The temple atop the hillock is the icon of Trichy. From the base, you need to climb around 650 steps to reach the temple at the top where Lord Ganesha is the presiding deity.
The aerial view of the city from the top of the hillock is a beautiful one. The hillock is a two tiered one and in the first floor, there exists a temple for Lord Shiva worshipped in the name of Thayumanava Swamy.

Rock Fort Temple
The huge rock which is more than one billion years old, encompassed with two temples deploying the rock cut architecture, the icon of the city Tiruchirapalli is the Rock Fort. This has been a mesmerizing tourist attraction which stands 83meters tall. The entire rock is a two storeyed arrangement. The first floor houses a Shiva Temple where the presiding deity is Lord Thayumanava Swamy.
Atop the rock, there is a beautifully constructed temple for Lord Ganesha. One can have the panoramic view of the city and the River Cauvery and the islet Srirangam from the top. The entire complex is under the preservation and maintenance of Archeological Department of India.
Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple
The two rivers Cauvery and Coleroon form an islet called Srirangam. This is the largest functioning temple complex in the world renowned as the first divyadesam out of the 108 as per the philosophy of the Vaishnavites. The gateway of the tower is the tallest in Asia.
Samayapuram Mariamman Temple
This place of worship is 17 km away from Trichy. 'Samayapuram Mariamman' is the presiding deity of the temple, who is supposed to be the sister of Lord Vishnu. It is also a significant place of Lord Shiva's wife goddess Sakthi.
Thiruvanaikaval Jambukeswarar & Akilandeswari Temple
It is a significant holy place where Saivites offer prayer or worship. This temple is situated at a distance of 3 km from the city of Trichy and near to Srirangam. Lord Jambukeshwara (Shiva) and Lordess Akilandeswari (Parvathi) are presiding deities of this holy place. A Lingam representing Lord Shiva is the attraction of the temple, which is partially underwater. It depicts one of the five important elements water, which is also called "Appu". It takes 1 hour to pay a trip to this temple.
Vayalur Subramaniaswamy Temple
This holy place lies at a distance of 14 kms from Trichy. This place of worship is considered one among the most celebrated shrines of Lord Murugan. During all Shastis (Full Moon day / 6th day of the New moon day), Thai Poosam, Panguni Uthiram, Karthigai, first day of the English as well as Tamil New Year, thousands of followers pay a visit to this temple.
