Aadi Perukku is an important festival in the life of a farmer. The eighteenth day of the Tamil month Aadi is celebrated as Aadi Perukku. There is a mythological belief that whatever we do on this auspicious day will return to us manifold.

The inflow of water in Rivers are likely to increase during this period. Post - harvest period, every farmer eagerly awaits for a rise in the water levels in the reservoirs and in other water sources to start the sowing process towards the next farming season.
